Cosmetics is always an industry under fire due to their animal testing which is unnecessary, violent and cruel. Pfizer is considered a kingpin in the cosmetic industry and is one of the cruelest for animal testing and lethal experiments. It’s CEO Ian C. Read, ranked 11th on Petas ‘Dirty Dozen‘ which lists the worlds worst CEO’s.

In 2015 alone they carried out experiments on 615 dogs, 303 guinea pigs, 338 ferrets, 1,142 primates, 258 cotton rats, 34 hamsters and 427 rabbits. This was only within their own laboratories and the figures do not include the massive amount of contract testing laboratories they also work with.

A number of federal inspections have also been carried out at Pfizer which have consistently shown multiple violations of regulations that are there to protect the animals in the laboratories. Labs which contains animals were found to stink of excrement from the animals that was not cleaned away and in one case a dog was reported to have been scalded by the cages automatic washer system to the point that he died.

One laboratory which they contracted out too called the Professional Laboratory and Research Services was shut down by the federal authorities thanks to a eyewitness undercover investigation of the lab by PETA which revealed sadistic treatment of animals.

Peta have now launched a campaign called ‘Chuck your ChapStick’ in the hopes that they can get consumers of Chapstick which is owned by Pfizer to stop using the product until they agree to stop using a cruel test named “forced swim test” where mice are forced to swim in a test tube with no way of getting out.

Chuck your ChapStick

The test became popular in the 1970’s as a supposed way to test antidepressant qualities of drugs. It was assumed that when the mouse stopped swimming and floated still it had given up and was depressed however anyone with even the smallest bit of common sense would comment that the mouse was probably just trying to conserve energy being the incredibly intelligent creatures that they are. It took a team of scientist to point this out before pharmaceutical companies decided the test was probably a bit pointless and very very unnecessary for all the mice involved.

Companies such as AbbVie Inc and Johnson & Johnson became the first to remove these tests from their labs and take a stance against the cruel drowning of these animals however Pfizer refused to ban this  animal experiment when contacted by Peta. They also sent a letter to Mr Read, Pfizer’s CEO and board chair however they received a reply with nothing but excuses in return.

We encourage all of our readers to Chuck your ChapStick and tell your friends that they should Chuck your ChapStick also!
